Helpful tips on introducing drawing and scribbling to your toddler.
What You Need:
• Unlined paper
• Jumbo crayons, jumbo pencil, or washable markers
• A tray or shallow, flat container
• Sand or flour
What To Do:
1. Let your child scribble freely on paper.
2. As she starts to use more words, ask her to tell you what she is drawing.
3. Show pride in even her simplest scribbles. This way, you encourage her to keep trying, and her skills will naturally improve with practice.
4. Never correct or make fun of your child’s drawings.
Variation:
1. Put some sand or flour in a shallow tray or container. Show your child how to “draw” in the sand or flour with her finger. Let her “draw” freely.
2. When you go to the beach, have her draw in the sand with her finger or a stick.
